People are surprisingly awesome sometimes.
An old black woman probably in her 70s or 80s was yelling to me in the parking lot, “excuse me! Sir, sir! Excuse me!”
I was thinking I had to have dropped something.I turned and she said to me “you have a lot of tattoos. I think they are beautiful”
I was completely taken by surprise, I didn’t know what to expect after she said I had a lot, but that wasn’t it.
She went on to say she knew I had what are called sleeves but asked if the ones in my legs constituted as “socks”, I laughed and said I didn’t know. She asked how many total hours a certain piece took, and that’s when I started thinking something was up.
No questions about if they hurt, or stopped me from working. Just saying how beautiful they were.
Then it happened…
Up to just above the knee she pulled her dress up and said “I wondered because I tell people I have leg sleeves and they get confused until I show them”
HER LEGS FROM ANKLE TO THIGH WERE FULLY INKED.
Flowers and plants intertwined completely covering her lower limbs. I almost lost my shit, I told her that her work was much more beautiful than mine. She told me she had a breakdown after having breast cancer when she was 65, and decided to decorate her body after having a double mastectomy.
She told me she was in a hurry to get home to make a snack before jeopardy came on, and just waved to me.
Woah…. Mind blown.
